Physiotherapists are licensed healthcare professionals who work autonomously and collaboratively alongside physicians and healthcare teams. With a patient-centred approach, physiotherapists use evidence-informed knowledge of rehabilitation sciences, anatomy, kinesiology and physiology to assess, treat, and manage pain, injuries, movement dysfunction, and chronic conditions. The goal of physiotherapy is to empower, promote independence and improve the quality of life for British Columbians across all ages and abilities.

Physiotherapists (or physical therapists) will work with you to put together a treatment plan for your condition or injury so you can get back to enjoying life and the activities you love.

Physiotherapists work with clients of all ages and with a wide range of health conditions. Whether it’s pain management and rehabilitation from an acute injury, like a sprained ankle, or management of chronic conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, a physiotherapist can help.

A physiotherapist also provides education and treatments aimed at health promotion and disease and injury prevention.

Physiotherapists are university trained practitioners who specialize in assessing and treating musculoskeletal injuries. Kelowna Manual Therapy Centre physiotherapists use a variety of treatment techniques to help you improve and meet your goals. Treatments can include manual therapy, specific therapeutic exercise, education, IMS dry needling, acupuncture, spinal traction, physiotherapy modalities, ConnectTherapy, the Thoracic RIng Approach and brace fitting.

Manual Physical Therapy is a specialized form of physiotherapy delivered with the hands and is used in conjunction with conventional physiotherapy. Manual therapists use their hands to mobilize and manipulate joints and soft tissue. University-trained physiotherapists who have taken an extensive series of post-graduate courses provide manual therapy. Manual therapy is helpful for the treatment of joints and muscles that lack adequate mobility and range of motion. This limitation can cause discomfort, pain, and an alteration in function, posture, and mobility. Manual physiotherapy involves restoring normal mobility and biomechanics. The restoration of normal mobility through manual physiotherapy helps provide relief for acute, sub-acute and chronic pain conditions.
Research has proven that manual therapy, in combination with other more traditional physiotherapy treatments, provides the most effective treatment.
